Speech

Enlightened body, speech, mind, qualities, and activities are the five qualities of enlightenment, the fruition of the practice of the buddhadharma. Since the ultimate aim of all of the foundation’s activities is none other than enlightenment, we have organised our different projects into these five categories.

Speech here refers to the printing, publication, and translation of dharma texts, the vehicle of the Buddha’s enlightened speech.

Lotus Ocean: Seeds of the Submlime Dharma

In the Lotus Ocean: Seeds of the Sublime Dharma, Chokling Rinpoche talks about the profound Mantrayana, the incomparable supreme teachings of Lord Buddha for attaining enlightenment in a single lifetime.

Rinpoche talks about the view and the methods, and explains all his lineages, from where he received these teachings. He elucidates on the preliminary practices, the creation and completion stages, and all the sacred teachings, given in a free and spontaneous manner. Therefore these teachings are clear, concise and easy to understand, with all the meanings in their entirety.

He states, “those people with a mind of great faith and with strong wishes to learn the essence of lord Buddha's teachings, the unity of sutrayana and mantrayana, the most profound path, will progress in knowledge and waves of benefits will arise. Therefore I request everyone to study, contemplate and meditate on this.”

Chokling Tersar

Chokling Tersar literally means the 'new treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa' and owes it name to the great Tibetan Buddhist master of the 19th century. The collection of treasures revealed by Chokgyur Lingpa together with its connected teachings are contained in the Chokling Tersar, a body of literature filling more than forty large volumes. In English translation each of these volumes would be between seven and eight hundred pages and the total would amount to approximately 30,000 pages. The connected teachings included in these forty volumes were written over the last 150 years, chiefly by his contemporaries Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul, as well as by the subsequent upholders of the lineage down until today.

In these scriptures are found detailed instructions on how to take full advantage of and imbue human life with its fullest meaning. These revealed scriptures were concealed by the 9th century Buddhist saint Padmasambhava with the expressed wish to be uncovered at specific times in the future. Many of them contain predictions for those times and which particular spiritual practices would be most beneficial for the people of those times.

Preservation of the Chokling Tersar:

H.E. Chokling Rinpoche has so far made 500 copies of the Chokling Tersar, consisting of 40 large volumes. Rinpoche has distributed the text among many Rinpoches and their corresponding monasteries inside Tibet and in Exile.

Chokling Rinpoche aspires to make and distribute more copies in the future. It is suggestible for people to contribute for future printing and make a meritorious offering.

Lhasey Lotsawa Translations and Publications

Translations

Under Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche and Phakchok Rinpoche’s guidance, a variety of different texts have been translated and made available to students by the translation group Lhasey Lotsawa.

The group is named after Lhasey Lotsa (Lotsa or Lotsawa meaning translator), the second son of the great dharma king Trisong Deutsen, also known by the names of Yeshe Rolpa Tsal and Murub Tseypo. Lhasey Lotsa was one of the twenty-five disciples of Guru Rinpoche, a great scholar, an accomplished master, and also a translator. In the 19th century, Lhasey Lotsa reincarnated as the great treasure revealer Chokgyur Lingpa, whose timely treasure teachings are now flourishing around the world. As the son of the 4th Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche is committed to upholding and propagating the lineage of Chokgyur Lingpa. Therefore, because of this auspicious connection with the translator Lhasey Lotsa the translation group was given the name Lhasey Lotsawa.

All of the texts Lhasey Lotsawa translates are specifically chosen by the Rinpoches and are succinct, practice-orientated, and meant for direct application. These texts range from the Buddha’s sutras to texts by great Indian masters such as Vimalamitra and Nagarjuna, and instructions and practice texts from the Chokling Tersar and Taklung Kagyu traditions.

Publications
We have also published several small booklets of Phakchok Rinpoche’s own teachings, and in the near future hope to publish several volumes of Taklung Kagyu texts in Tibetan.

We aspire that by translating, publishing, and also teaching precious texts such as these we can help not only preserve the dharma of scripture, but also preserve and revive the true meaning of dharma—the dharma of realisation—and further its study and practice around the world.
